Chase Nordengren's teaching and research focuses on the application of mixed methods to the study of complex problems in educational organizations. As an IES pre-doctoral fellow with the University of Washington's College of Education, Chase received his Ph.D. in Leadership, Policy, and Organizations in K-12 Systems in 2015. His dissertation uses mixed methods social network research to identify and follow the work of informal teacher leaders in an elementary school through their patterns of advice-giving, information-sharing and support, drawing on distributed models of instructional leadership. Future work will continue to explore how emergent methods in educational research can drive quantitative and qualitative understandings of the relationship between educational organizations and student learning.
